What is Quran Memorization?
Quran memorization, known in the Arabic language as Hifz, is the process of committing the entire Quran all 114 Surahs and 6,236 verses to memory. A person who has completed this sacred task is known as a Hafiz (male) or Hafiza (female). This tradition has been at the heart of Islamic culture and religion since the time of its first revelation to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
Firstly, the most of the Quran surah revealed to prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Mecca and the rest of in Medina. The Companions including Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib was among the earliest to preserve it, both in writing and in memory. From those Medinan years onwards, every generation of Muslims has passed the Quran forward through a verified chain of narrators, making it the most carefully preserved text in human history.
Unlike ordinary academic study, Hifz is an act of worship. Each verse memorized is a step closer towards Allah, a living fulfilment of the Shahada that God’s word lives not just in books, but in the hearts of believers across the world.
How Is Hifz Taught in Traditional Islamic Education?
Historically, Hifz was taught in mosque-based schools (maktabs) and Islamic madrasas. Students would sit before a Sheikh or qualified scholar, recite their new portion (sabaq), then revise previous lessons, an educational model refined over centuries of Islamic scholarship. This same model now adapted online forms the backbone of Quranic Rise Academy’s online quran memorization classes.
Principles of Fiqh and Hadith scholarship, including concepts like Hadith Qudsi (divine sayings), have always emphasised the sanctity of preserving the Quran in its most original form supporting the practice of Hifz as a religious obligation on the Muslim community at large.

- Assessment & Placement – Every new student begins with a free trial class. Teachers assess existing Quran recitation,, and memorization pace before designing a personalized study plan.
- New Lesson (Sabaq) –Each session introduces a new portion of the Quran — following the classical Sabaq method used by Islamic scholars for over a thousand years
- Revision (Sabqi & Manzil) – Revision is the backbone of Hifz. The academy uses a structured Sabqi (recent revision) and Manzil (long-term revision) system to ensure nothing is forgotten.
- Tajweed Correction & Progress Tracking — Proper recitation in the line with the rules of Tajweed and the Arabic language is non-negotiable.
